The Mount Ski Gull Junior Alpine team showcased their exceptional talent and skill on Sunday, Feb. 4, as they clinched an impressive seven first-place finishes in the Northland Junior Race Series. With fierce competition from other ski teams representing Mount Ski Gull, Detroit Mountain, Duluth, Giants Ridge, Lutsen, and Mont du Lac, the Mount Ski Gull team proved their dominance on the slopes.
In the boys’ categories, Kaleb Pape secured victory in the 6-7 age group with a remarkable combined time of 1:02.8. Phillip Majka emerged as the champion in the 8-9 age bracket, clocking in at 53.72. Meanwhile, Alex Pape recorded the fastest time in the boys’ 10-11 bracket, crossing the finish line at 1:03.9.
For the girls, Kelsey Pape took home first place in the 10-11 age group with a commendable time of 1:03.9. Johanna Benson exhibited exceptional skill, claiming victory in the girls’ 12-13 group with a combined time of 58.09. Displaying their prowess, Svea Streeter dominated the girls 16-and-over category, finishing with a remarkable time of 57.16.

The Northland Junior Race Series saw a total of 189 participants from different ski teams, highlighting the popularity and enthusiasm for alpine racing in the region. Skiers aged 10 and above tackled a challenging slalom course, while those aged 9 and younger showcased their skills on a giant slalom course.
Under the guidance of coaches Paul Burton, Paul Noskowiak, and Ashley Valaseno, the Mount Ski Gull Junior Alpine team continues to train diligently, honing their skills for future competitions.
